Yalaguru Anjaneya Temple – Yalaguru Anjaneya (Hanuman) temple, is situated in a village called Yalagur, in the district of Bijapur. An age-old temple, this pilgrim place is a perfect, weekend getaway from Bangalore. Well-known as the Yalagurappa temple, this shrine is nestled on the banks of the river Krishna. Placed, amidst lush green foliage, captivating landscapes, and a lake flowing by the side of the temple, makes it one of the marvelous holy places to visit. According to a legend, it is being said that Lord Rama along with Sita Devi and Lakshmana, lived in this place, during Aranya Kanda, of Ramayana. 

 

 

The temple dates back to the time of Ramayana, and it is believed that this Hanuman temple was built by a devotee, as per the orders of Lord Sri Rama. What is now the idol of Yalaguru Anjaneya, was first found as a huge stone in the Lake of Gondi. As per folklore, after the fall of the Bijapur empire, a priest was performing some rituals on this huge stone. Suddenly, it broke into pieces. The same night, the priest got a dream, in which he was told to rejoin the broken pieces, in the temple for seven days. So, the priest rejoined the broken pieces, in seven days. When he opened the gates on the following day, he was surprised to find that the rejoined pieces had miraculously turned into a 7ft tall idol of Lord Hanuman. This temple is also considered to be one of the powerful temples in Karnataka. 

 

Karthik Utsav or Yalgur Jatra is the biggest event, held every year in Yalgur Anjaneya temple. It will be celebrated, in a grand way. Apart from Jatra, during Tuesdays and Saturdays, devotees throng this temple for the darshan of the Lord. It is said, praying to Lord Hanuman on Tuesdays and Saturdays is considered to be very auspicious.
