Kullu is a captivating town, situated in Himachal Pradesh. Located on the banks of the alluring Beas River, Kullu town is amidst the splendiferous Kullu Valley. Kullu Valley is a broad open valley, formed by the Beas River, in the seam of Manali and Largi. This valley is known for its temples, and the hills of Kullu are covered with pine/deodar forest. Apple Orchards, make this Valley even more special. Historical references about the Kullu valley dates back to ancient Hindu literary works of Ramayana, Mahabharata, and the Puranas. The name Kullu derives from the word “Kulant Peeth”, which means “end of the habitable world.” 

 

As per legends, during the Great Flood, Manu visited Kullu Valley but was unable to cross the Rohtang pass. So, Manu named the last place he found, as Kulant Peeth, and chose to settle as well as meditate in what has now become, the town of Manali. The name further became Kulut, and later was called Kullu. Kullu’s scenic views and snow-clad mountains, towering Deodar jungles, rivers, and apple orchards have attracted several feature filmmakers. If you are an ardent adventurer, Kullu is an apt place for you, as it proffers Trekking, river rafting, mountaineering, paragliding, and hiking over the Himalayan glaciers. 

 

It is said, both Hindus and Buddhists inhabited the caves near Kullu valley’s mountain ranges. The valley is said to have been affluent with gold, silver, red copper, crystal, and bell metal. The first motorable road in Kullu was built only after Independence. Kullu also has few important temples like the Raghunath Temple and Jagannathi Devi Temple. Apart from temples, the Pandoh Dam and Chandrakhani Pass, are also must-visits in this region.
