Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple, is one of the acclaimed temples, in Goravanahalli village of Tumkur district. Abode, of Goddess Mahalakshmi Devi, this temple consists of other,  deities like Goddess Marikamba and Manchala Nagappa, the snake God in Goravanahalli. Enveloped by lush greenery around this shrine, makes it one of the most resplendent temples, in the whole of Karnataka. There is also, a reservoir called Teetha, in the vicinity of this, temple. Usually, the devotees after seeking the blessings of the Goddess, visit even this, reservoir, as a sight-seeing spot. Theetha reservoir is constructed for the Suvarnamukhi river. 

 

As per folklore, Abbaiah, a poor man was blessed to find an idol of Goddess Mahalakshmi, in unexpected circumstances. Hence, he took the idol home, and prayed to the Goddess, with utmost reverence. In a due course of time, this destitute man, became wealthy, by the grace of the Goddess. So, he started donating, some money towards charity, and his home earned the tag, “Lakshmi Nivas.” Abbaiah’s brother, Thotadappa too, joined his brother in this noble work, of donating money towards, charity. After the demise of Abbaiah, Thotadappa carried out, daily pooja to the Goddess. 

 

One day, in his dreams, Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared and, asked him to build, a temple for her. Nonetheless, Thotadappa built a temple, for the Goddess. However, after the death of Thotadappa, Chowdaiah was offering pooja to Goddess Mahalakshmi, in this pilgrim place. But, from 1910 this temple, was in an abandoned state. Nevertheless, in 1925 a lady called, Kamalamma after seeing the plight of the temple, started performing pooja to, the Goddess. Nonetheless, even she left the place and returned in 1952. This time, she started performing regular pooja and re-established this temple, restoring the lost glory, of this Goddess Mahalakshmi temple. 

 

Timings – Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple is open from 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Daily Puja Timings – Abhisheka and Kumkuma Archana from 8 AM to 9.30 AM. Maha Mangalarathi is performed daily at 9:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and at 7:30 PM.
