A two-hour drive from Bangalore, Madhugiri Hill is situated in the district of Tumkur. Scaling at a height of 3,390 feet (approximately 1,200 miles), this is the only monolithic hill structure in entire Asia. Only an experienced hiker is allowed to climb this hill. Beginners/inexperienced hikers are not allowed, as it is very challenging to ascend this hill.

The hike pathway begins with simple comfortable stone-carved steps, that lead you to a few fort entrances known as Antharalada Bagilu, Diddi Bagilu, and Mysoru Bagilu. Later mounting the hill becomes a bit tedious as the path is precipitous. You will need professional support and pieces of safety equipment like a rope to reach the zenith.

While climbing the hill, you will come across a Dravidian style architecture, which was built in 1670 AD by Sri Hire Raje Gowda.

This hill was locally termed as a “Honeybee Hill” as there were plenty of beehives found in this region. The name Madhu denotes honey, and Giri means hill. On the way, while crossing through the existing ramparts, and forts, there is a ruined temple on top of the hill dedicated to Lord Gopalakrishna Swamy.
